HFE International’s EFI System Components Include
ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU)
ECU’s range from hobby-grade to professional-grade; and pricing increases accordingly. There are also several development programs available for fuel injection systems and some may turn into a good product.
However, at HFE International, we believe it is wise to select a proven ECU. As such, the ECU we use has been in production for more than 25 years. Over the years, the unit has undergone upgrades, modifications and other refinements. It offers all the functionality required to control a heavy fuel engine.
FUEL PUMP
HFE International uses an aircraft-grade fuel pump for engines less than 5hp. If required, modifications are made to the to accommodate a larger capacity engine.
The fuel pump features positive displacement piston operation that self-primes and operates under very high pressures. Variable speed operation allows for precise fuel metering and low power consumption.
TEMPERATURE SENSORS
Because engines are modified to fit a given temperature sensor, we made sure to select the smallest, lightest weight sensor for the task. The temperature sensor plugs directly into the ECU wire harness. And, no special calibration is required.
THROTTLE BODY
At HFE International, we size the intake manifold to fit the application. We take advantage of the latest selective laser sintered (SLS) materials to produce lightweight, rugged manifolds for our customers.
FUEL INJECTOR
The fuel injector is also sized for the engine. There are several novel injectors available for the task. However, as with the ECU, we selected a respected manufacturer with over 50 years experience in the industry. Our fuel injector manufacturer also has several thousand patents for the technology.
INTAKE MANIFOLD
HFE International sizes the intake manifold to fit the application. We take advantage of the latest Selective Laser Sintered (SLS) materials to produce lightweight and rugged manifolds for our customers.
CRANK SENSOR
A crank sensor is designed and installed on the engine. This sensor allows the ECU to indicate where the engine is in its cycle and calculate the proper fueling. HFE International designs and manufactures this simple device in-house.
IGNITION
Selection of the ignition is based on the customer’s requirements. This device receives a signal from the ECU and triggers a spark at the spark plugs. There are several manufacturers for the ignition. Our team reviews all the options available for the final product.
