UAV Engines, Propulsion Systems & Accessories

HFE International designs and manufactures heavy-fuel and multi-fuel propulsion systems for UAVs and unmanned platforms. From our facility in Tucson, Arizona, we build EFI UAV engines, GenPod field-swappable propulsion units, Wankel rotary engines, power management systems and the ground support equipment that keeps them flying.

We are AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified, and we supply UAV manufacturers, aerospace integrators, defense contractors and government customers worldwide, including the United States and Canadian Armed Forces. Founded in 2010, HFE has produced over 2,000 propulsion systems now in service across 28 countries.

UAV ENGINES & PROPULSION SYSTEMS

Shop EFI, MIL SPEC, DA Engines and More

Our DA series of EFI conversions runs from the DA-35 at 2.8 hp to the DA-215 at 14.9 hp, alongside MIL-SPEC variants tested to MIL-STD-810 and AIE Wankel rotary engines from 5 to 120 bhp for heavy-fuel operation. EFI gives reliable high-altitude starting, consistent fuel mapping and lower fuel burn than a carbureted engine of the same displacement. Starter alternator options are available across the range.

VOLZ SERVOS & ACTUATORS

Shop high-performance servos from Volz

We supply the full Volz servo line, built by a German manufacturer with more than 40 years in actuator development and qualified against the engines and airframes we support. Every servo is specified for the job it does rather than picked from a catalog, so you are not matching part numbers across suppliers. Contact us for sizing help on a new integration.

ELECTRONICS, SENSORS & POWER MANAGEMENT

Shop ECMs, PMUs, Temperature Sensors and more.

Our electronics range runs from the HFE ECM Lite to the Currawong Mil Spec ECM, which adds MIL-STD-810 testing, cold start to -40 C and EMI shielding. Alongside them we stock power management units, cylinder head temperature sensors, Currawong ESCs, solder cup connectors and wire harnesses, each specified against the engine it serves.

Frequently Asked Questions About UAV Engines

A heavy-fuel engine runs on kerosene-based fuels such as JP-8, JP-5 or Jet A rather than gasoline. Military operators favor them because a single fuel supply serves aircraft, vehicles and generators, and because heavy fuels are far safer to store and handle aboard ship.

HFE International designs and manufactures heavy-fuel and multi-fuel propulsion systems for unmanned aircraft. The range covers EFI UAV engines, MIL-SPEC engines, GenPod field-swappable propulsion units, Wankel rotary engines, power management systems, servos, sensors and UAV ground support equipment.

Electronic fuel injection meters fuel electronically against engine and air data, where a carburetor relies on airflow through a fixed jet. EFI starts and runs reliably across altitude and temperature swings without manual adjustment, holds a more consistent air-fuel ratio, and typically burns less fuel for the same power.

A GenPod is a complete line-replaceable propulsion unit from HFE International, combining engine, mounts, fuel system, ignition and generator in one sealed assembly. A field crew swaps the entire pod instead of repairing an engine on the flight line. GenPod is available in 70, 100, 120 and 150 configurations.
